About the role

To further the knowledge and understanding of right-of-way maintenance through growth habits and correct arboricultural techniques used in trimming, pruning, and removing trees around the Cooperative's electrical distribution system. To learn and promote safety in accordance with policies and procedures to maintain safe working conditions.

Reporting relationships

Reports to: Line Clearance Foreman

Responsibilities

• Perform tree trimming, pruning, and removal around electrical distribution systems using correct arboricultural techniques.
• Maintain safe working conditions in accordance with Berkeley Electric Cooperative's safety rules and regulations.
• Operate power saws and other right-of-way tools while working in trees.
• Climb trees using hooks.
• Operate tractors, skid steers, backhoes, and other right-of-way equipment.
• Respond to emergency calls at night and on weekends.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Must be a qualified Line Clearance Arborist.
• TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association) Aerial lift specialist designation, to be acquired within two (2) years of hire date.
• Minimum of one (1) year as a Groundman, or equivalent experience at an electric utility or tree service company.
• Minimum of two (2) years in this position to become proficient and eligible for promotion.
• Must possess and maintain a valid SC commercial driver's license with air brake and combination endorsements.

Skills

• Basic knowledge of equipment and tools used in right-of-way clearing.
• Familiarity with right-of-way specifications.
• Ability to perform basic operations with power saws and other right-of-way tools.
• Ability to climb with hooks.
• Ability to maintain Line Clearance Arborist certification.
• Ability to operate tractors, skid steers, backhoes, and other right-of-way equipment.

Working Conditions

• Required to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Regular hours with some overtime.
• Involves climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting objects up to 100 pounds.
• Subject to emergency calls at night and on weekends.
