Lifesaving Outcomes Coordinator (Foster)

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah (onsite at Sugar House location)

Pay

Hiring range: $19.50 to $23 hourly, depending on experience, plus benefits.

Schedule

Full-time, Thursday – Monday. Possible shift times: 9:30 am – 6:30 pm or 8 am – 5 pm. All schedules are subject to change. Position includes weekends, nights, and holiday work.

About the role

Lifesaving Outcomes Coordinators are responsible for the daily functions and growth of lifesaving outcome programs including adoptions, transports/transfers, and foster care of animals in our program locations. Coordinators act with urgency to accomplish important tasks and play a direct role in achieving Best Friends Animal Society’s no-kill mission and organizational success. While this role includes responsibilities in all outcome-focused programs, coordinators may receive intensive assignments in a particular program based on organizational needs. Senior coordinators have an increased level of responsibility or skills and the ability to make on-the-spot decisions to accomplish tasks.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate kindness and the Golden Rule in everyday actions by practicing inclusion and respect for every person.
• Be a role model for authenticity, kindness, and positive influence with team members, visitors, volunteers, and animals, including listening, being present, supportive, and demonstrating compassion and curiosity in conflict.
• Coordinate and conduct day-to-day lifesaving program activities including pet adoptions, pet transports, foster care, and other activities; contribute to strategies for operational efficiency, superior customer service, and increased lifesaving, including pre- and post-adoption and foster parent support.
• Lead and empower volunteers and volunteer teams to expand Best Friends’ lifesaving capacity; deliver and lead superior customer service.
• Develop a detailed knowledge of Best Friends’ programs to speak knowledgably about and support teams in providing or communicating about programs.
• Work collaboratively with and assist team members in all areas of operations to develop, evolve, and implement efficient processes to achieve lifesaving goals; follow policies, procedures, and task lists, including accurate and timely communications, work completion, data entry, and recordkeeping.
• Maintain a safe workplace, model safe work practices, adhere to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicate about unsafe practices and conditions.

Requirements

• Experience with foster programming is required. Strong preference for experience as a foster program coordinator, but will consider applicants who regularly foster dogs or cats for an organization.
• Previous experience working with dogs and/or cats in a professional or volunteer capacity.
• Basic ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics of dogs and cats.
• Prior professional experience working in a public-facing role providing a high level of customer service to clients, customers, or the community.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in a professional and welcoming manner via in-person, written/email, and phone.
• Bilingual or multi-lingual skills are preferred but not required.
• Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to engaging with adopters, partners, visitors, volunteers, and colleagues; familiarity and comfort with a conversational adoption process.
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work as a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with well-developed organization skills to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
• Resourceful, get-it-done attitude; initiative to assist in any area or process; problem-solving, seeking answers independently and enthusiastically; flexibility to persist until goals are achieved.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with shelter software/animal management software or desire to learn.

Physical Requirements

• Routinely lift 40 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity including lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.
• Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time including typing, arm, and hand motion.
• Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time.
• Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
• Exposure to dogs, cats, and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
• Ability to work with, leash, kennel, walk, and handle cats and dogs, including those with health and/or behavior conditions/concerns.
