LIFEGUARD - (TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE) - Resource Connection

About the role

The Aquatic Center at the Resource Connection is a year-round shallow water, heated facility used for recreational and lap swimming, therapeutic exercise, and learn-to-swim programs. Aquatic Center Lifeguards supervise the aquatic area during all facility activities to ensure participant safety and an optimal aquatic experience. Lifeguards also monitor water chemistry and provide administrative customer service.

This part-time position expects a work week of 16 to 28 hours.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patrons and enforce all pool rules; curtail misuse or inappropriate actions
• Perform rescues and provide first aid when necessary
• Prevent, report, and document all incidents within the facility
• Work with special group organizations and adhere to rental rules and policies
• Maintain sectioning of the pool for water exercise classes and learn-to-swim programming
• Ensure the proper patron-to-lifeguard ratio of 20:1 and document bather load every half hour
• Test and maintain proper water chemistry; add chemicals as needed; check water temperature; maintain required logs
• Report malfunctioning equipment immediately to the Aquatic Supervisor
• Adjust and maintain facility temperature, ventilation, and climate using fans, windows, and heaters
• Enforce the facility reservation schedule and protocol to ensure fair and efficient operations
• Provide customer service including facility tours, membership information, badge processing, and conflict/complaint resolution
• Clear, secure, and lock the pool area at closing; keep the pool area locked when not in use and after normal operating hours
• Check pool and safety equipment to ensure proper placement and working order
• Assist with maintenance and sanitary upkeep of the lifeguard office, pool, pool area, and locker rooms
• Attend inservices as scheduled and meet all physical requirements per certifying agency and state requirements
• Maintain knowledge of Resource Connection Aquatic Center policies and safety procedures
• Perform other related duties as required

Minimum Requirements

• Current certification in Deep Water or Shallow Water Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers
• High school diploma or GED
• At least 18 years of age
• Current and valid driver license or state-issued ID card
• One year of lifeguarding experience preferred
• Experience teaching water exercise classes preferred
• Knowledge of water chemistry, chemicals, and processes preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to tolerate indoor hot temperatures, bend, carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, grasp/squeeze, use hand tools, hear, keyboard, kneel, lift below the waist, lift between waist and shoulder, lift overhead, lift to the side/twist, use material handling equipment, tolerate noise, pull, push, reach, reach overhead, perform repetitive tasks, see color, see far and near, sit, negotiate slippery surfaces, squat, stand, talk, twist, use hands, walk, swim, perform CPR/AED, and work alone and with others.
