At Apple Montessori Schools, being a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor is more than just a summer job — it's an opportunity to inspire confidence, teach life-saving skills, and create joyful experiences for young children. You’ll play a key role in our summer program by ensuring safety at the pool and guiding students through fun, developmentally appropriate swim lessons. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, you’ll step into classrooms to support teachers and connect with students in new ways.
Schedule
- Summer Camp Session: July 6th - August 28th, 2026
- Mandatory Training/Orientation days prior to the start of camp
- Monday - Friday, full-time hours (35–40 hours per week)
- Evenings and weekends off
Responsibilities
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and remain rescue-ready at all times
- Perform headcounts of children in the pool area
- Provide safety information to children prior to entering the pool
- Supervise swimmers to ensure adherence to safety protocols
- Identify hazards or potential risks and take preventive measures
- Perform rescues during swimming accidents
- Administer first aid and CPR as needed in emergencies
- Conduct pool chemical checks to ensure safety and hygiene
- Maintain accurate records of pool use and chemical levels
- Teach level-appropriate swimming techniques and safety education following Apple Montessori Schools swim lesson standards
- Inspect and maintain rescue tubes, buoys, and other pool equipment
- Ensure safe storage of pool equipment and chemicals
- Review and respond to emergencies in accordance with Apple Montessori Schools procedures
- Apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
- Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary tools
- Maintain a clean and attractive aquatic environment
- Assist teachers and teacher assistants in the classroom as needed
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum age of 18
- High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or equivalent
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Current Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start)
- Ability to maintain physical and mental readiness for certification standards
Working and Physical Demands
- Outdoor-based role requiring full range of body motion, including swimming, diving, and treading water
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity
- Requires normal hearing, vision range, and absence of color blindness
- May require working under stressful conditions
- Flexibility to respond to staffing needs, including potential overtime or weekend hours as requested
- Primarily on-site duties unless otherwise approved
Pay
$17.00/hour
