About the role
The YMCA of Greenville is seeking a Lifeguard Instructor to ensure safety in YMCA pools and aquatics areas. This position offers free individual Y membership with significant discounts on programs and personal training, along with a 12% retirement contribution.
Responsibilities
- Prepared to teach the assigned class.
- Greets and welcomes participants to class each day.
- Provides timely and accurate feedback to participants about their progress and skills they need to work on.
- Prepares participants to meet the course objectives.
- Adapts your teaching approach to match the experience and abilities of the participants, identifies participants who are having difficulty and develops effective strategies to help them meet course objectives.
- Credits written and practical testing for lifeguard classes.
- Wears required uniform to convey a professional appearance.
- Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants.
- Maintains a clean, safe, fully stocked and well organized work area.
- Keeps supervisor informed of any equipment needs or concerns.
- Handles and resolves concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
- Provides accurate, appropriate, and immediate responses to all requests by members/guests.
- Leaves the instructional area in a clean and orderly condition by ensuring all equipment is returned to its appropriate area.
- Maintains required instructional certifications.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend/complete required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
Requirements
- Current American Red Cross lifeguard instructor certification, CPR, First Aid, & AED Certification.
- Able to teach and communicate aquatics skills to participants.
- Able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to members, program participants, and guests.
- Able to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
- Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Completes New Staff Orientation and Blood Bourne Pathogen training within first 30-days of employment.
