Lifeguard

About the role

The Lifeguard position at the Old Colony Y requires the ability to ensure the safety and well-being of participants using the aquatic facility. The position involves assisting in planning and implementing aquatic special events, monitoring lap swimmers, enforcing pool rules, and communicating program and membership promotions.

Responsibilities

• Arrive on deck, in uniform, ready to open pool promptly at scheduled time.
• Smile and greet members courteously.
• Aid in planning, organizing, and implementing aquatic special events.
• Monitor lap swimmers and designate fast or slow lanes when required.
• Explain class and pool procedures to program participants, enforcing all posted pool rules.
• Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor on appropriate forms.
• Wear appropriate lifeguard attire as requested by supervisor.
• Attend all staff meetings scheduled by supervisor.
• Secure ALL pool doors at the end of your shift unless properly relieved by another certified staff member.
• Communicate to all program participants and all members all program and membership promotions.

Requirements

• Minimum 16 years old (YMCA will provide training if needed).
• Current Lifeguard certification in either Red Cross, YMCA, or Ellis.
• Current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, and O2.
• Must cross-over to Ellis Lifeguard Certification within 30-60 days and YMCA cross-over within 6 months.
• Must be able to perform all physical tasks of a Lifeguard as well as lift an adult male from the pool onto the pool deck.
• Complete program specific and employee orientation training by required timeline.
• Must be available during weekends.
