Life Skills Instructor - Adult Home & Community Based Services
Position Summary
The Life Skills Instructor will utilize a strengths-based, recovery-focused approach in a professional manner to teach adults, living with serious mental illness, the skills they need in order to reach their individual recovery goals. This position will predominantly provide services in the home and community setting. Staff will travel within an assigned local geographic area.
Education/Experience/Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year of equivalent experience in a service capacity of individuals in need (children, youth, elderly, physically, emotionally and/or mentally disabled, special needs, etc.) OR a Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a directly-related human service field from a college/university accredited by the US Department of Education required
- If the position requires you to work with DCS, a minimum of four (4) years of equivalent experience in a service capacity of individuals in need (children, youth, elderly, physically, emotionally and/or mentally disabled, special needs, etc.) is required. (For positions that will work with DCS, experience must be in direct work for child welfare and/or protection)
- A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a directly-related human service field from a college/university accredited by the US Department of Education preferred (no equivalent experience needed)
Qualifications
- Must possess/maintain a valid driver's license, current automobile insurance and a driving record that meets the guidelines and requirements of the organization
- Must have the ability to use private car to transport self and others
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of mental health and recovery principles
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs
