Life Skill Coach for Wounded Veteran
This is a community-based PRN opportunity working with Veterans who have brain injuries, PTSD, neurological disabilities, and other cognitive or physical challenges.
About the role
Each Veteran Warrior is typically authorized for between 6-12 hours per week with their Life Skills Coach. More than one Veteran Warrior may be assigned to a Life Skills Coach if availability allows for adequate scheduling. The male warrior we are hiring for needs a Life Skills Coach to provide up to 50 hours per month (scheduling 2-3 days per week) of support services. This position will never become a full-time position.
We provide training, supervision by Neuro Case Management, and offer ongoing professional enhancement educational webinars. Veterans are encouraged to apply!
Responsibilities
- Based on the established goals of an individualized Care Plan, provide Veteran Warriors functional supports to achieve set goals.
- Identify barriers, triggers, or challenges in functional status in order to develop proactive interventions that promote continued independence.
- Educate Veteran Warriors on how to develop necessary problem-solving skills and strategies in a solution-driven role.
- Provide positive support and be an advocate for the Veteran Warrior.
- Provide assistance and guidance with identifying choices and making informed decisions that involve their activities and life.
- Assist Veteran Warrior with improving community living and integration skills in a variety of settings such as shopping, church attendance, sporting events, recreation, club participation, classroom support, volunteer/employment support, etc.
- Serve as a role model/mentor and maintain good communication/relationships with the Veteran Warrior, their families, and referral sources.
Requirements
- Must be male.
- Must have an insured vehicle and be willing to transport (mileage reimbursed).
- Must have outstanding organizational skills and a positive, forward-thinking approach.
- Must enjoy being in the community.
Qualifications
- Experience working with an individual professionally and/or a loved one with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder a plus.
- Understanding of military culture or Veteran status preferred.
- Retired individual or behavioral health experience preferred.
- Mentoring, coaching, or training experience.
- Proven experience working in a collaborative environment.
- Caring, compassionate, and have a high level of patience.
Pay
Hourly pay is $20.00 plus mileage reimbursement.
Schedule
2-3 times per week for a total of 50 hours per month maximum.
