About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring a Licensed Veterinary Technician for their Radiology department in Kirkland, WA.
Responsibilities
- Safely handle, restrain, and monitor patients during imaging procedures
- Absess patient status and ensure comfort, minimizing stress during procedures
- Assist with sedation and anesthesia for imaging studies as directed by veterinarians
- Monitor sedated and anesthetized patients, including vital signs, recovery, and proper documentation
- Perform and assist with advanced diagnostic imaging, including:
- Digital radiography (X-ray)
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Ultrasound and ultrasound procedures
- Fluoroscopy
- MRI (occasional)
- Operate and maintain imaging equipment according to hospital protocols
- Perform routine quality assurance checks on all radiology equipment
- Adhere to radiation safety standards, including use of PPE and monitoring devices
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and escalate when necessary
- Cooky workflow coordination between other clinical teams and Diagnostic Imaging service
- Prioritize cases based on urgency (ER vs. scheduled outpatient)
- Ensure timely processing and communication of imaging results as directed by radiologists
- Maintain accurate medical records within hospital systems
- Work closely with ER, ICU, Oncology, Surgery, and other specialty departments
- Collaborate with veterinarians to help ensure sedation plans align with imaging needs while prioritizing patient safety, including reducing patient anxiety and stress
- Serve as a subject matter resource for sedation protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging department
- Provide guidance to clinical teams (ER, ICU, Oncology, Surgery, and others) on appropriate sedation strategies to facilitate safe and effective imaging
- Provide compassionate communication support to pet owners when appropriate
- Participate in team rounds, case discussions, and departmental meetings as required
- Offer real-time support and troubleshooting for sedation-related challenges during imaging procedures
- Participate in training and onboarding of technicians and assistants regarding sedation protocols, monitoring standards, and safety procedures
- Promote consistency in sedation practices across departments through education and communication
Qualifications
- Active Washington State LVT credential required
- Minimum 1–3 years of clinical experience (specialty or ER preferred)
- Experience in diagnostic imaging strongly preferred
- Anesthesia experience required
- Experience in Hands-Free Radiology practices strongly preferred
- Experience in Fear-Free handling and/or Certification strongly preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50+ lbs (with assistance when needed)
- Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout shift
- Capability to work in a physically and emotionally demanding environment
Work Environment
- Specialty and emergency veterinary hospital setting
- Exposure to radiation (with safety precautions in place)
- Fast-paced, dynamic, and high-acuity caseload
- Scheduled hours are 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM with 30 minute lunch break
- Participation rotating on-call is required - Saturday's from 9a - 2pm in a 3-week rotation
