Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)

About the role

Help animals in need! Our highly skilled technicians play a crucial role in our program, working as a team with Community Medicine veterinarians and assistants to provide essential services to the pets and rescue animals that need us most.

Responsibilities

• Care for 35-40 cats and dogs per day in spay/neuter surgery
• Administer injections including anesthetics, pain medications, vaccinations and other medications
• Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture and administer fluids as needed
• Maintain all necessary controlled substance drug logs and patient records
• Provide treatments and supportive care according to the CM Standard Operating Procedures and as directed by attending Veterinarian
• Communicate with all clients in a non-judgmental, effective and professional manner
• Explain information provided by the veterinarian about an animal’s condition to clients
• Assist with humane euthanasia in accordance with ASPCA policy and CM protocols
• Represent ASPCA in a professional and courteous manner
• Collaborate and foster good communication with ASPCA colleagues
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions

Qualifications

• Must have graduated from accredited school of veterinary science technology (2 or 4 year program) or the equivalent as determined by the New York State Education Department
• Surgery/Anesthesia experience preferred
• Must have current New York State Veterinary Technician License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment)
• Excellent animal handling skills (cats, dogs)
• Excellent customer service skills
• Experience using a computer and navigating software applications
• Ability to lift and carry 40-plus pounds repeatedly throughout day with assistance
• Ability to work standing for 8 or more hours
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work efficiently and calmly under challenging conditions
• Strong interest in animal welfare and serving underserved communities
• Fear Free® Shelter certification is required within 60 days of hire

Pay

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future. The target hiring range for this role is $34.60 - $40.00 per hour

Schedule

This is typically a Monday – Friday, 8 hour schedule with flexibility to work occasionally beyond the scheduled work day.
