Position Purpose

The purpose of this Veterinarian Technician position is to provide excellent veterinary care and customer service to our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and their owners. The Veterinary Technician represents our mission and values by setting a positive tone for the technical and customer support team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Greet clients and patients, obtain weight and vital signs, record in the electronic medical record, and document patient visits.
  • Aid veterinarians with appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasias under their supervision.
  • Perform patient restraint, collect and process laboratory samples, administer medications, and maintain the electronic medical record.
  • Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, relay test results, update inventory, and manage accounts receivable.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor anesthesia and recovery, and prepare for discharge or transfer.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments, ensure patient cleanliness, hydration, and feeding, and safely walk canine patients for elimination.
  • Participate in training and knowledge dissemination for new staff members.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized hospital environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and provide backup phone and front desk support.

Nature of Supervision

The Veterinary Technician will take direct supervision from veterinarians and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty. Overall supervision is provided by the Hospital Office Manager.

Planning and Problem Solving

The Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and optimal experience of the hospital. They contribute to the growth of a productive practice and focus on high-quality care standards.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have immediate supervisory duties.

Education/Experience

  • College or college-equivalent education (completed) as required for becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
  • At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Caregiving and sympathetic attitude, maintaining a professional demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Work Environment

The majority of job duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. A significant portion of the partner's time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
