Licensed Steam Operator

This is a position in the Facilities Management department that requires demonstrated expertise in plant operations and licensure to operate and maintain steam systems in the relevant municipality or state. Experience in a healthcare setting will be helpful. Regardless of specialty, a Licensed Steam Operator may be required to perform other maintenance tasks as needed, such as minor repairs or assisting with other projects.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the hospital's boiler and/or chiller systems, including performing water treatment on boilers, steam systems, chillers, and cooling towers, as well as maintaining and preparing these systems for inspections.
• Performs boiler and chiller teardown and major maintenance with help or supervision.
• Conducts activities for winterizing chillers and cooling towers, troubleshooting and maintaining HVAC digital and pneumatic controls.
• Ensures the cleanliness of their working area and assigned locations.
• Has sound knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handling equipment, and other terminal HVAC devices.

Requirements

• Licensure as a steam operator in the state or municipality where work is to be performed.
• Demonstrated abilities in plant operations and maintenance.
• Demonstrated abilities of the skills listed above.
• A valid driver's license may be required for this position.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment by following established safety procedures and protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare setting.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
• Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
• For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
• Bending, lifting, stooping, crawling, laying, sitting, walking, climbing.
• Use of hand and power tools, proper use of hearing and eye protection.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures in nature, work in noisy or constricted spaces, exposure to odors and smells.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $31.70 - $48.24. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

Schedule

• 10-hour shifts, including weekend and/or evening shifts.
• Scheduled weekly hours: 40
