About the role
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $4,668 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN TWO INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE: $2,334 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE and $2,334 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE. This position is responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing steam systems and components on existing building systems.
Requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to hire date.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, install, and repair steam systems and components on existing building systems.
- Read and comprehend blueprints and plumbing schematics.
- Work for extended periods of time with hands over head, and on hands and knees.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the specific job, respirators, face masks, safety glasses, safety shoes, and protective gloves.
- Serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential (mandatory) University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions may require the University to close.
- May require work in active BSL3 labs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
- Special licenses or certifications may be required.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain one prior to hire date.
Qualifications
- Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Skills
- Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in commercial steam maintenance and repair.
- Competencies in maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of facility components.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and plumbing schematics.
