Licensed Psychologist (NY HELPS)

About the Role

The Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS), Division for Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) is seeking a licensed psychologist to work as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in a juvenile justice residential setting/facility.

Responsibilities

• Order and maintain updated testing and assessment materials.
• Supervise testing and assessment completed by Masters level psychologists and unlicensed psychologists (Psychologist 2, Associate Psychologist).
• Conduct admission screening, including mental status exam and suicide assessment.
• Perform 30-day assessments, including administration of mental health and substance use screens, youth and collateral interviews, and record reviews to develop psychosocial assessments and mental health treatment plans.
• Collaborate and plan treatment with youths' assigned psychiatrist as indicated.
• Provide individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.
• Conduct treatment reviews.
• Administer cognitive and other psychological testing as indicated.
• Serve as a member of the facility Committee on Special Education.
• Engage in discharge planning.
• Work with youth case managers, direct care staff, education, and medical staff to develop and enact comprehensive treatment plans aimed at increasing youths' skills in emotional intelligence, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

Reports to the Facility Assistant Director for Treatment (ADT) who provides individual and group clinical supervision. Monthly state-wide psychology supervision offers opportunities to discuss cases and systems considerations with other psychologists in DJJOY facilities (9 total). DJJOY provides numerous clinical trainings with NYS Department of Education-approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Requirements

• Licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State.
• Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration.

Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.

Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position.

An individual with experience and the necessary skill sets to provide crucial behavioral and mental health services to adolescents with developmental and intellectual disabilities is preferred.

Pay

Starting salary for Licensed Psychologists is $121,413. Staff in this title also receive geographic pay of $20,000.

Background Investigation

All prospective employees will undergo a Criminal Background Check (CBC), including State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Convictions must be reported; felony or misdemeanor convictions or falsified/omitted information may bar appointment. Each case is determined on its merits, consistent with applicable laws. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted and may need to pay associated fees.

Prospective employees will also be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) and the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Those found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect on the SEL will be barred from appointment.
