Licensed Psychiatric Technician - Mobile Crisis Outreach Team Palmdale

Sycamores is partnering with the 988 mental health crisis hotline to provide support to people experiencing a mental health crisis. The 988 hotline provides initial phone support to all callers and triages calls to the Sycamores Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams for in-person support.

About the role

The Mobile Crisis Outreach Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) responds in person to provide timely support, including crisis stabilization, safety planning, assessment for danger to self/others, gravely disabled write 51/50 holds as needed, and follow-up support. This role co-responds with a MCOT Peer Support Specialist, utilizing the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team van to respond to calls.

The MCOT LPT is an integral part of the larger Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT), partnering closely with the 988 call center, police, sheriff, psychiatric hospitals, and ambulance transport companies. The team evaluates individuals experiencing a mental health crisis in the field and takes measures to ensure their safety, including determining if involuntary hospitalization is required. The MCOT LPT leads care coordination, collaborating with the MCOT Peer Support Specialist to arrange hospitals, ambulances, housing, and other necessary services within specified geographical areas (Antelope Valley, San Fernando Valley, or San Gabriel Valley).

Responsibilities

• Respond in person to mental health crises to provide crisis stabilization and safety planning.
• Assess individuals for danger to self/others and gravely disabled; write 51/50 holds as needed.
• Provide follow-up support to individuals in crisis.
• Co-respond with a MCOT Peer Support Specialist using the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team van.
• Lead care coordination, collaborating with the MCOT Peer Support Specialist to arrange hospitals, ambulances, housing, and other services.
• Evaluate individuals in the field to determine if involuntary hospitalization is required for safety.
• Respond to calls within specified geographical areas (Antelope Valley, San Fernando Valley, or San Gabriel Valley).
• Maintain close partnerships with the 988 call center, law enforcement, psychiatric hospitals, and ambulance transport companies.

Requirements

• Licensed in the State of California as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (required).
• Must maintain relevant licensure as a condition of employment.
• 2+ years of successful licensure and experience preferred.
• DMH (Department of Mental Health) experience preferred.
• Must attend and satisfactorily complete all trainings required by the Agency, federal, state, and/or local regulations.
• Must maintain all required licenses and certifications.

Qualifications

• Valid California driver’s license.
• Acceptable driving record as determined by Agency policy.
• Proof of auto insurance meeting minimum coverage requirements.
• Driving is an essential function of this position, as it requires operating company vehicles for crisis intervention, including urgent or emergency services.

Physical Demands

• Ability to physically manage and/or de-escalate consumers/residents.
• Frequent driving to various work site locations.
• Frequent/continuous intermittent standing/walking; occasional/intermittent sitting.
• Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, squeezing, gripping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
• Reaching at or above shoulder level may be necessary.
• Bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
• Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Continuous use of near vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills for handling telephone calls, interacting with consumers and co-workers, and performing job duties.
• Physical presence in the office during shift when not in the field.
• Ability to practice physical intervention for safety of consumers according to training and policy.
• Frequent driving in the community with consumers.
• Filling up gas tank of agency van, as needed.

Pay

Starting pay range: $70,304 - $76,080 per year for full-time employment. Starting pay will be based on previous work experience and educational background.

Schedule

Sunday 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday - Wednesday 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
