Licensed Practical Nurse-Oncology Palliative Care Medical Surgical Telemetry Department, Full Time Variable

Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina – Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, 5 South Medical (36-bed Oncology/Palliative Care Medical-Surgical Unit).

About the Role

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) responsible for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The unit serves adult oncology, palliative care, and geriatric patients on a track schedule with a 1:5 patient ratio. New graduate nurses are welcome.

Responsibilities

• Participates in assessment of patients.
• Collaborates with departmental and interdisciplinary groups in developing the patient plan of care.
• Follows patient’s plan of care while providing direct nursing care to assigned patients.
• Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse or other authorized person(s).
• Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care.
• Administers medication as ordered by physician.
• Facilitates a safe environment.
• Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately.
• Maintains required competencies.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors the quality of care.
• Establishes collaborative interpersonal relationships with other Health System staff.
• Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the medical regimen.
• Actively participates in cost containment and completes accurate charging for patient services.
• Complies with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP) to support customer satisfaction, patient throughput, and hospital functional capacity.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Current licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Compact state licensure.
• 1–2 years of related clinical experience preferred (Oncology/End-of-Life Palliative Care, Wound Care, Medical-Surgical, or Telemetry).
• BLS certification (American Heart Association).

Physical Requirements

• Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs.
• Visual acuity for observation of patients.

• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
