Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced professional nursing care in resident care areas.
  • Develops and implements nursing care plans.
  • Responds to emergency and specialized resident care situations.
  • Evaluates nursing care practices and communicates relevant facts.
  • Administers medications and treatments, starts I.V.s, places NG tubes, inserts Foley Catheters, obtains blood samples, maintains resident charts and progress reports.
  • Responds to basic and emergency resident needs.
  • Initiates emergency procedures, requests laboratory tests, and provides nursing instructions to supportive staff personnel.
  • Coordinates and observes activities of supportive nursing staff and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Serves as a professional interface with physicians and ancillary personnel.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of general policies and procedures.
  • Participates in problem-solving affecting the care of residents with complex needs.
  • Describes physical/psychosocial and teaching needs of residents with complex problems.
  • Utilizes resources to interpret diagnostic test findings and physical assessment data.
  • Develops appropriate discharge plans for each resident and coordinates implementation with Social Service Coordinator.
  • Reviews timecards daily and approves them in KRONO on payroll.
  • Hires new team members and assists with the interview process.
  • Completes disciplinary warnings and educates/directs staff as needed.
  • Communicates facility/departmental information via various modalities.
  • Trains and instructs new personnel; monitors work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develops and recommends in-service programs on recognized clinical issues and needs.
  • Provides input to supervisory personnel in evaluating progress towards meeting unit goals.
  • Maintains visibility in departments by spending at least 80% of time on the unit and consistent rounding.
  • Works with staffing coordinator to create and deploy work schedules and maintain safe staffing levels.
  • Supervises personnel actions such as consulting with shift supervisors for merit recommendations, promotions, and transfers.
