Job Purpose

Provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions

  • Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Responsible for fostering a positive work environment.
  • Affirms patients' needs based on medical history, risk factors, complaint, need for care, etc.
  • Classifies the urgency of symptoms and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Collections samples from patients including blood, urine, stool, and sputum.
  • Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.
  • Performs nursing care per qualifications, based on the plan of care, following established policies, procedures and/or protocol.
  • Actively participates in the planning and implementation of patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Delegates appropriately according to scope of practice and educational preparation; adhering to the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act and "5 Rights of Delegation."
  • Administers medications as stipulated by the policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Communicates with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Safeguards required documentation is complete and in compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Observes signs and symptoms and reports to the physician and/or other appropriate health professionals as often as needed, changes in the patient condition.
  • Ensures all safety and infection control practices are followed.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
