About the role

Sentara Careplex Hospital is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Med/Surg – General Medicine Unit. A sign-on bonus of $8,000 and relocation assistance are available for qualified candidates.

The LPN functions under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in the clinical setting, within the scope of practice dictated by the State Boards of Nursing. The LPN demonstrates professional and clinical knowledge relative to the designated clinical practice setting in the delivery of direct patient care, adhering to the level of verified competency dictated by the site-specific program. The LPN works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support and communicate effectively with other licensed independent practitioners (Physicians, NP, PA) in collaboration while providing care and treatment for patients, clinical support, and teaching for patient and family members. The LPN adheres to the legal and ethical standards of nursing practice, manages responsibilities of workload with accuracy, provides excellence in customer service, performs testing, medication administration, and implements nursing interventions and care plans to support a holistic approach to patient care. The LPN serves as a patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease.

In the Emergency Department/Ambulatory setting, the team operates in a fast-paced environment with high energy and positivity, treating patients of all ages from pediatric to geriatric, and utilizes ED Techs to assist with supportive duties.

Unit Description

The Medicine Unit – 4 James provides care to acute and chronic care patients aged 18 and older, with a focus on the senior population. The unit is seeking seasoned nurses who are compassionate, dependable, flexible, and hardworking, with an interest in advancing their career in nursing leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP).
  • Adhere to verified competency levels dictated by the site-specific program.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, including physicians, NPs, and PAs.
  • Provide clinical support and patient/family education.
  • Perform testing, medication administration, and implement nursing interventions and care plans.
  • Serve as a patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease.
  • Manage workload with accuracy and provide excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Valid LPN license in the state(s) of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Graduation from a trade school Licensed Practical Nurse program.
