Our cardiac service line nurses are cross-trained to work in both our cardiac surgery and cardiovascular/stroke stepdown units. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will provide nursing care under the direction of an RN, physician, or other authorized healthcare provider, performing tasks within the framework of case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and supportive/restorative care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform therapeutic nursing interventions under RN supervision, including daily care, tube feeds, and dressing changes.
  • Administer medications upon completion of a medication course.
  • Document care using the EPIC system.
  • Collaborate with an interprofessional team, including RNs, medical social work, care managers, nutrition, rehab services, spiritual care, and pharmacy.
  • Ensure quality nursing care in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, national standards, and organizational policies.
  • Utilize the Nursing Process to provide direct care to patients and families.

Career Path

  • Advance via the Clinical Ladder program with completion of a medication administration course.
  • Opportunities to become a preceptor or transition to a Registered Nurse role.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
  • Current or eligible licensure as an LPN in the State of New York.
  • Maintain current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Participate in orientation, continuing education, and maintain expertise in your area of practice.

Work Environment

  • Clinical setting with Class I exposure hazards.
  • Physical demands: Medium work involving frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Work contact includes patients, visitors, medical staff, and regulatory/professional agencies.

Supervision

Supervised by Registered Nurses, Team Leaders, Clinical Coordinators, Unit Managers, and Clinical Services/Nursing Administration.

Pay

Pay range: $26.85 - $34.68 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the FLSA will be paid within the equivalent base salary of the stated hourly rates. Pay may vary by location.
