Patient Care Related Duties

  • Applies principles of infection control and safety in the performance of patient care.
  • Communicates effectively with charge nurse and other members of the health care team regarding patient's needs and/or changes in condition.
  • Responds appropriately in crisis situations; able to prioritize.
  • Reports significant unit problems to the charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with all regulatory agencies; ability to assume charge in the absence of an charge nurse.
  • Participates in patient teaching and nursing research activities (CQI).

Customer Service

  • Respects, is flexible, knowledgeable, confident, professional, pleasant, patient, and helpful.
  • All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations.

Job Duties

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Affirms and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Orients patient and family to new environment; develops rapport with patients, family, and/or significant others.
  • Orients LPNs, Nurses Aides (Certified Nurse Aides) as required.
  • Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Participates on unit committees and in CQI activities as assigned.
  • Participates in patient care conferences and in staff development activities as required.
  • Assists other personnel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing or equivalent education as described by the state education law.
  • Current NJ license Licensed Practical Nurse license.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
  • IV Certification required.
  • Successful completion of Progressive Care Orientation Program required.
  • Clinical nursing skills appropriate for an LPN.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
