Licensed Practical Nurse - IDEA Health Professions (Immediate Opening)
At IDEA Public Schools, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) leads the campus clinic independently, serving up to 1,600 students in grades K-12, with a primary focus on K-5. The role ensures state-mandated health services, compliance with immunization requirements, and accurate record-keeping while promoting health education and preventative practices.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care using professional triage skills, basic care, and established school health protocols.
- Manage the campus clinic independently, serving a student population of up to 1,600.
- Act as a health advocate for students, notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing emergency medical care.
- Coordinate medication administration and implement mandatory screening programs (vision, hearing, spinal, and AN).
- Ensure student compliance with state immunization requirements.
- Serve as a health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and the community.
- Assess student health issues and make appropriate referrals to medical professionals, teachers, and parents.
- Participate in health-related school committees and collaborate on health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
- Report suspected child abuse and conduct home visits for student health concerns (with principal approval).
- Maintain accurate physical and electronic health records, including clinic visits, student action plans, and doctor’s orders.
- Request and manage clinic supplies and inventory.
- Comply with federal, state, and district health policies, including reporting potential health and safety hazards.
- Communicate regularly with the Assistant Principal of Operations, Regional Registered Nurse, and other staff on health services issues.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED (required).
- LVN or LPN licensure (required).
- Current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid (required).
- Certification to conduct state-mandated vision, hearing, spinal, and AN screenings (preferred).
- 2+ years’ experience in a health-related position; experience with school-age children preferred.
- Experience maintaining electronic health records (preferred).
- Proficiency in basic first aid, CPR, and diabetic care management.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use laptops, software, and databases for data entry, analysis, and word processing.
- Ability to track, monitor, and communicate data effectively (verbal and written).
- Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and execute toward goals.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Diabetic care management.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in keyboarding, electronic file maintenance, and database management.

Pay
Hourly rate ranging from $18.29 to $23.92, based on experience. Eligible for a performance bonus tied to team performance and goal attainment.
