About the role

Nurses at Matheny assume respected leadership roles as part of our medical team with shared decision-making responsibilities. Each patient has a primary nurse who coordinates all care needs. Our nurses and nurse managers work closely with paraprofessional care staff for ongoing communication and teaching about each individual patient. We maintain close contact with families and acknowledge their importance as valued members of the healthcare team.

We follow a unit-based model of care, with a nurse manager overseeing the overall functioning of each residential unit. Nursing at Matheny is a challenging and rewarding experience where nurses make a difference through compassion and expertise.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates effective skills in the assessment and review of patients’ medical records.
• Follows each patient’s individualized plan of care, monitors outcomes to treatments, and communicates issues to the patient’s primary nurse.
• Demonstrates critical thinking skills to determine appropriate nursing interventions and/or the need for collaboration with the physician or other clinicians.
• Carries out all nursing/physician orders and documents nursing care and patient responses in accordance with hospital requirements.
• Demonstrates proficiency in medication administration and applies the Six Rights to safeguard against medication errors.
• Demonstrates proficiency in all fundamental nursing skills.
• Applies CDC Infection Control Guidelines for Standard Precautions and Transmission-Based Precautions and monitors infection control practices within the work environment.
• Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team by giving and receiving pertinent information to colleagues.
• Maintains ongoing and timely communication with families/guardians on all patient-related issues.
• Advocates effectively and ensures patient information is properly communicated when patients transition among healthcare professionals, both internally and externally.
• Demonstrates appropriate communication with patients taking into consideration their ages and functional levels.
• Communicates effectively and follows up with direct care providers regarding patient care needs.
• Performs additional responsibilities as required in emergency situations, including assistance during staff absences or shortages (e.g., additional weekend or holiday time).

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing program for Practical Nursing required.
• Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey required.
• Current CPR Certification required.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position is $30.00 - $33.00 per hour.

Full-Time, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM shift.
