Licensed Practical Nurs LPN/LVN Licensed Vocational Nurse

Position Summary

Great learning opportunity for LPN's that are enrolled in an RN program and have an interest in surgery. Provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.

Essential Functions

• Affirms patient's condition and nursing care needs.
• Sets goals and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions.
• Develops individual nursing care plans.
• Implements care plans and makes revisions as needed.
• Evaluates patient care outcomes.
• Collaborates with physicians and other hospital employees.
• Administers medications, treatments and therapies.
• Communicates with patients and oversees provision of care.
• Provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition.
• Accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given.

Additional Information

• Maintains facility equipment, supplies and work areas.
• Assists in the orientation of new employees.
• Coordinates and supervises activities of employees and department operations.
• Participates in performance/process improvement activities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Experience: 1 year or less.
• Licenses: Current LPN license in state of practice; BCLS required; Handle with Care preferred.
• Skills: Ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to patient and family needs. Critical thinking. Work well under pressure while keeping calm and maintaining customer focus. Physical And Mental Demands: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job responsibilities. Works in well-lit, ventilated and climate-controlled office environment with routine office equipment; some equipment has moving mechanical parts. In hospital environment, may be exposed to hazards and unusual elements, which may include but are not limited to bloodborne pathogens and / or contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials which may require extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment. Noise level in the work environment is typical for an office and/or hospital environment. Minimum overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
