Licensed Occupational Therapist

About the role

Laughlin Children’s Center is a highly respected nonprofit outpatient organization founded in 1956, committed to supporting the educational, emotional, and developmental needs of children ages two to eighteen across Pennsylvania. The Occupational Therapist will evaluate and provide treatment to children with developmental, sensory, physical, and/or functional challenges that impact participation in daily activities and meaningful occupations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive evaluations using standardized assessment tools, caregiver interviews, and clinical observations. Analyze and interpret assessment findings, prepare clear and timely evaluation reports, and communicate results and recommendations to families, referring providers, and other relevant stakeholders as appropriate.
• Complete documentation to obtain insurance authorizations and predeterminations.
• Develop initial treatment plans with appropriate goals. Revise and update treatment plans as necessary. Plan and execute treatment sessions with activities and interventions that incorporate evidence-based practices and are developmentally appropriate. Evaluate progress and determine readiness for discharge from therapy services.
• Maintain records of the occupational therapy program including treatment notes, reassessments, and progress reports.
• Provide education and training for families as indicated.
• Complete requirements to maintain professional licensure and certification including professional development.
• Provide supervision of student interns.
• Aid in equipment safety checks and maintenance.
• Make appropriate referrals to other allied health professionals if indicated.

Required Skills and Experience

• Master’s degree or higher in Occupational Therapy
• Experience working with children and adolescents, including pediatric clinical placements, fieldwork, or professional practice preferred.
• Demonstrated passion for supporting the development, independence, and well-being of children with diverse learning, developmental, sensory, and physical needs.
• Knowledge of child development, sensory processing, motor development, and occupational performance across the lifespan, with understanding of pediatric populations.
• Ability to review, analyze, and interpret clinical, educational, and medical records to inform assessment, treatment planning, and service delivery.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, educators, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Availability to provide services during after-school and evening hours.

Licensure, Certifications and Clearances

• Valid PA Occupational Therapist license
• Current National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification
• Federal Criminal History Check
• Pennsylvania Criminal History Check
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
• Compliance with regulations of accrediting bodies, including but not limited to current American Heart Association CPR Health Care Provider Certification.
