Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA)

About the Role

The Administrator directs the day-to-day functions of the facility in accordance with current federal and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern nursing facilities to assure the highest degree of quality care is provided to residents at all times.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the facility’s programs and activities in accordance with guidelines issued by the governing board.
• Assist department directors in the development, use, and implementation of departmental policies and procedures and professional standards of practice.
• Ensure all employees, residents, visitors, and the general public follow the facility’s established policies and procedures.
• Conduct daily meetings with appropriate staff during facility inspections to discuss survey findings and formulation of plans of action/correction.
• Assist in developing plans of correction for cited deficiencies, incorporating timetables and monitoring methods to prevent recurrence.
• Review and check competence of workforce and make necessary adjustments or corrections.
• Assist in recruitment and selection of competent department directors, supervisors, facility non-licensed staff, and consultants.
• Counsel or discipline personnel as necessary.
• Consult with department directors to eliminate or correct problem areas and improve services.
• Assist in topic selection, planning, conducting, and scheduling of in-service training classes, on-the-job training, and orientation programs.
• Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
• Ensure physicians comply with facility policies governing admission, medical treatment, visit requirements, plan of care, and orders.
• Report problem areas to the Medical Director.
• Ensure all personnel, residents, and visitors follow established safety regulations, including fire protection, smoking regulations, and infection control.
• Review accident/incident reports (e.g., falls, injuries, abuse) and monitor the effectiveness of the facility’s risk management program.
• Ensure the facility is maintained in a clean and safe manner for resident comfort and convenience.
• Review and interpret monthly financial statements and provide information to the governing board.
• Report suspected or known incidents of fraud (e.g., false billings, kickbacks) to appropriate agencies.
• Ensure resident rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights are maintained.
• Review resident complaints and grievances, document actions taken, and discuss with residents and families as appropriate.
• Ensure resident funds are managed in accordance with current federal and state regulations and that appropriate accounting records are maintained.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Administration, Business Administration, or a health-related field (preferred).
• Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Nursing Home Administrator.
• 2 years of experience in a supervisory role; healthcare experience preferred.
• Knowledge of reimbursement regulations, nursing practices, and laws/regulations governing nursing facility administration.
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
• Ability to read and interpret financial records and reports.
• Ability to communicate policies, procedures, regulations, and reports to personnel, residents, families, visitors, and government agencies.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
• Must function independently, demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and transport such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
