About the role

Central New York Psychiatric Center is recruiting a Licensed Mental Health Counselor to provide clinical mental health counseling and psychotherapeutic services to individuals with mental illness at the Clinton Satellite Unit, located on the grounds of Clinton Correction Facility in Clinton County.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct mental health counseling and psychotherapeutic treatment
  • Conduct risk assessments, clinical evaluations, and intake screenings
  • Document and maintain records and treatment plans
  • Provide individual and group counseling and education

Qualifications

Candidates may be considered through one of the following pathways:

  • HELPS program: A license and current registration as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State (open to candidates from outside or within State Service).
  • Competitive class appointment: Reachable on the current Licensed Mental Health Counselor eligible list (open to candidates from outside or within State Service).
  • Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law (open to candidates within State Service only).

If appointed, you must maintain your license and registration. Failure to do so may result in removal from the position. You must also not be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any Federal or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program). If listed after appointment, you may be terminated. Additionally, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider, obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number, and actively participate to allow billing through Medicare and Medicaid. Loss of billing ability may result in termination.
