About the role
The Counseling Center is a critical component of Student Success at the University of South Florida, located in Tampa Bay on Florida's west coast. The Counseling Center supports the mental health and well-being of 44,000 graduate and undergraduate students.
Responsibilities
- Provides psychotherapy for individuals, groups, and intimate partners, presenting with a range of psychological concerns.
- In embedded role, provides clinical services on-site for the College of Nursing for approximately 8 hours per week (likely expanding over time).
- Assesses presenting concerns through the Center's intake and assessment process.
- Provides crisis intervention at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including involuntary hospitalization, USF community consultation, and post-incident debriefing.
- Attends Counseling Center meetings, serves on Counseling Center, divisional or University committees and in regional, state, and national organizations, as assigned.
- Supervises the clinical and academic experiences of practicum students enrolled in mental health academic training programs.
- Participates in Counseling Center sponsored outreach and consultation programming for the university community.
- Serves as the primary consultant to the College of Nursing, and arranges for/attends regular meetings for consultation as needed.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in applied health sciences (mental health counseling, social work, counselor education, couple & family therapy, psychology).
- Licensed or license eligible at the master's level in the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 491, F.S.
- Two years post-master's experience.
- Experience with nursing academic program requirements and educational systems, for instances as a nursing professional or providing mental health services in a hospital or clinic setting.
- Experience working with a college student population.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Expertise in providing short-term individual therapy, emotional regulation and wellness promotion, using practices aligned with dialectical behavior therapy, positive psychology, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing approaches.
- Experience supervising trainees (e.g., graduate students, pre-licensure clinicians) in provision of mental health services.
- Experience and comfort working with students presenting with high risk difficulties including suicidal ideation, self-injurious behaviors, eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD, and/or trauma.
