Licensed Customs Broker / Senior Entry Writer
About the role
We're hiring a Licensed Customs Broker / Senior Entry Writer for one of our clients in Houston, TX. This is a full-time, fully in-person role at the client's Houston office (ZIP 77090). Remote and hybrid are not available. You must already live within a practical daily commuting distance and be comfortable with normal Houston weekday traffic. You'll be asked for your current ZIP code and estimated commute time to 77090. Our client is looking for a hands-on, experienced Licensed Customs Broker to manage customs entries from start to finish while also providing technical guidance, regulatory oversight, and support to the import team. You may also serve as the company's designated Corporate Customs Broker License Holder. This is not a compliance-only or management-only seat: you'll personally prepare entries, talk to customers, resolve regulatory issues, review others' work, and mentor less-experienced team members. Experience with Descartes (OneView) is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Personally prepare, review, transmit, and monitor customs entries end to end (air, ocean, and border-crossing shipments)
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and arrival notices, and validate entry data in Descartes or similar
- Prepare and transmit entry summaries and customs documentation, including In-Bond transactions and ISF filings
- Monitor entry status and respond quickly to rejects, holds, exams, and CBP requests; handle post-entry corrections
- Maintain accurate, complete electronic entry files
- Ensure transactions comply with CBP regulations, 19 CFR, and PGA requirements
- Provide guidance on HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, admissibility, and special trade requirements
- Review complex, high-risk, or unusual transactions and keep documentation audit-ready
- Track regulatory changes and support CBP Responsible Supervision and Control
- Communicate directly with customers on documentation, classification, and PGA questions, and manage assigned accounts
- Coordinate with carriers, airlines, steamship lines, terminals, and warehouses as needed
- Provide technical guidance to Import Specialists and Entry Clerks, review their work, and train and mentor the team
- Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to procedures, workflows, and documentation standards
