Library Specialist I
About the role
Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. The Wampler Library specialist will assist patrons, organize library materials and information, and perform clerical and administrative tasks as directed by the Director of Library Services.
Responsibilities
The primary duty of this position is purchasing and procurement, and managing financial reports for the Library. Assists with daily tasks of the library including working directly with students to instruct in formal and informal library and information literacy skills.
- Will prepare purchase requests, order supplies, and, upon delivery, processes and distributes supplies and materials throughout the library.
- Examines books for damage; repairs or facilitates repairs when needed.
- Assists in preparing exhibits, seasonal displays, art collections, and bulletin boards throughout the library.
- Makes ID badges for students, faculty and staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Working knowledge of Library of Congress and other related library classification systems.
- Working knowledge of office equipment and accurate keyboarding skills necessary to manage clerical and cataloging duties.
- Ability to remain professional and courteous while interacting with library patrons.
- Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and patrons.
- Must be willing to participate in library training as directed by the Library Director.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. At least two years of relevant library experience or an associate’s degree. Basic knowledge of cataloging or willingness to learn and apply knowledge.
Preferred: Two to three years of library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

This position is designated as a covered employee in a non-restricted position in accordance with Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) Policy 2.20. Pay
$15.00 per hour
Schedule
Up to 29 hours weekly which varies per the Library operating hours.
