Library Reference Technician (Youth Services) (WAR/Part-Time)

Responsibilities

Provides technical and reference assistance to children, teens, parents, teachers, and other library patrons.

May assist in planning and presenting Youth Services programs for infants, toddlers, pre-school, school-aged, and teen library patrons.

• Staffs the youth services desk.
• Maintains the collection.
• Promotes library programs.

Requirements

• Minimum of high school diploma.
• Experience working with children in libraries, schools, or daycares preferred.
• General knowledge of children’s and teen’s literature.
• General knowledge of personal computer skills and MS Office software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to interact and communicate with children, teens and their parents in a pleasant and effective manner.
• Ability to plan, organize and present daily work, library programs and special projects.
• Ability to learn and operate library automated systems.
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, use time effectively, work independently, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate and work well with other staff members.
• Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including office equipment such as computers, copiers, etc.
• Able to lift boxes of up to 50 pounds occasionally, and to push and pull library carts frequently.
• Frequent stooping and bending involved.
