Responsibilities
Provides technical and reference assistance to children, teens, parents, teachers, and other library patrons.
May assist in planning and presenting Youth Services programs for infants, toddlers, pre-school, school-aged, and teen library patrons.
- Staffs the youth services desk.
- Maintains the collection.
- Promotes library programs.
Requirements
- Minimum of high school diploma.
- Experience working with children in libraries, schools, or daycares preferred.
- General knowledge of children’s and teen’s literature.
- General knowledge of personal computer skills and MS Office software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to interact and communicate with children, teens and their parents in a pleasant and effective manner.
- Ability to plan, organize and present daily work, library programs and special projects.
- Ability to learn and operate library automated systems.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, use time effectively, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate and work well with other staff members.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including office equipment such as computers, copiers, etc.
- Able to lift boxes of up to 50 pounds occasionally, and to push and pull library carts frequently.
- Frequent stooping and bending involved.
