About the role
The role involves administering the offender library and related institutional library services, including planning and directing all related operations. Duties include reviewing, evaluating, selecting, ordering, and cataloging library materials and equipment; preparing and maintaining budget requests; completing required reports; preparing library promotions; training and supervising offender assistants; instructing and assisting patrons; exercising initiative and independent judgment; and performing other related work as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, evaluates, selects, orders, and catalogs library materials and equipment.
- Prepares and maintains budget requests for library materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Accurately completes required reports on or before established deadlines.
- Prepares library promotions, such as displays of books, reading lists, for a positive environment.
- Trains and supervises offender assistants to perform routine library tasks.
- Instructs and assists patrons in locating materials within the library in both print and electronic resources.
- Exercises a high degree of initiative and independent judgment in the operation and management of the library.
- Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations.
Requirements
- Four or more years of library, education, or correctional experience.
Qualifications
- Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year.

Pay
- A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
- A $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a medium-security institution.
- A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
Schedule
- The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
