Library Department - Assistant Librarian (Pool Position)

About the role

The Cal Poly Maritime Academy Library invites applications for a pool of part-time librarians as needed. Responsibilities may include supporting library instruction and teaching library workshops, providing reference services through various modalities, representing the library at campus-wide outreach events, and creating and updating online resources.

Responsibilities

• Supporting library instruction and teaching library workshops.
• Providing reference services through varied modalities – in person, email, chat, and Zoom.
• Representing the library at campus-wide outreach events.
• Creating and updating online resources, including webpages, guides, and tutorials.

Requirements

• MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent institution by the time of appointment.
• Experience providing reference, instruction, or outreach services to a diverse population.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially in a team setting.
• Demonstrated competency working with computer applications and the ability to learn new software applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate to a variety of stakeholders.
• Ability to interact sensitively and effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of relevant experience.
• Experience in or potential for developing and leading engaging library-related instruction sessions.
• Experience in promoting library-related programs.
• Experience working in an academic library.
