Library Clerk I-II

About the role

The City of Saratoga Springs is hiring Library Clerks at two levels (I and II). Both positions involve circulation of materials, special programming, and assisting customers. The Clerk I role focuses on basic duties and requires a general understanding of library reference, circulation, cataloging, classification, and departmental policies. The Clerk II role includes more complex duties, works without direct supervision, and requires a comprehensive understanding of the department’s mission, goals, services, technology, policies, and procedures. All employees report to the Library Director, Librarian (for Clerk II), and ultimately to the City Manager.

Responsibilities

• Circulate library materials and manage check‑in/check‑out processes.
• Assist patrons with inquiries, reference questions, and program participation.
• Support special programming and events within the library.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure proper classification of materials.
• Apply attention to detail and strong organizational skills in daily tasks.
• For Clerk II: Perform complex circulation duties and operate independently without direct supervision.
• Uphold library policies, technology standards, and departmental procedures.

Qualifications

Library Clerk I

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical functions in English.
• Six (6) months of prior library experience.
• One (1) Uplift Certification Course through the Utah State Library, or 40 hours of equivalent library coursework.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification.

Library Clerk II

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical functions in English.
• One (1) year of experience as a Library Clerk I.
• Three (3) Uplift Certification Courses through the Utah State Library, or 80 hours of equivalent library coursework.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification.
