About the role

The City of Westminster is seeking a dynamic, compassionate, and collaborative Library Associate who loves working with children and tweens ranging from birth to middle school ages. The Library Associate II - Youth Services position is responsible for complex and technical paraprofessional library work in the Public Services area.

Responsibilities

- Conducting story times - Staffing the library information desks - Programming for youth age 0-12 - Recommending books to patrons - Helping patrons locate books on the shelf and with research assignments - Assisting library staff in maintaining the collection - Assisting patrons with public computer usage and printing/copying/scanning/faxing - Teaching patrons to use the library’s catalog, databases, and eBook collections

Requirements

- Must be at least 18 years of age - Graduation from high school or GED - Two (2) years minimum experience working with children - Two (2) years minimum experience providing customer service - Knowledge and love of books for children 0 to 12 years of age

Qualifications

Physical Requirements: Work performed is physical in nature, involving sufficient physical strength and stamina for sitting and standing, frequent crouching, squatting, bending, and twisting, constant light and firm grasping, and near acuity to read computer screens and book and shelving labels.

Skills

- Strong customer service skills - Ability to engage in story times incorporating early learning concepts and caregiver education - Working knowledge of new and diverse fiction and nonfiction titles for ages 0 to 12 years of age - Proficiency in Microsoft Office and high level of comfort with technology - Creative thinking skills and good oral and written communication skills

$26.96 - $34.53 Hourly

Schedule

Part-time, benefited, 24 hours/week (.6 FTE)
