Library - Associate II
Description
JOB SUMMARY
Library Associate 2 is responsible for the overall customer service focus of the library. LA2s assist patrons at service points, in the stacks, and during programs, classes and outreaches, in addition to maintaining a neat collection, helping with technology questions, and supporting a love of reading and learning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides excellent customer service.
- Assists patrons with all Library transactions -- including checking in/out items, processing the transfer of materials from branch to branch, issuing library cards, processing financial transactions, promoting reading and learning.
- Provides instruction in the use of the Library and its services and resources; connects patrons to services and resources through personal assistance.
- Supports Library programs and events via promotional, marketing and outreach efforts in and out of the Library.
- Sherds materials, creates displays and maintains a tidy and orderly collection.
- Adds or escalates patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management.
- Knows and understands the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, supports client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
- Folows all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
Requirements
- H.S. Diploma or GED
- Two years of library experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of library systems and databases preferred
- Excellent customer service skills
- Comfort with technology, including computers, cell phones and Microsoft Office Suite
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of daytime, evening and weekend hours
- Folows all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move from place to place within the location;
- Lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasionally up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
