Library Assistant l Children's Department

About the Role

The City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Library Assistant I to assist with organizing and providing assistance to librarians with the maintenance of the library and audiovisual materials.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality service and promote an accommodating, welcoming library environment.
• Register borrowers, issue library cards, and maintain records of new registrants.
• Assist patrons with researching and obtaining information from the library or archival collections.
• Manage the operations of the café shop.
• Plan and coordinate library events and assist with cultural events/programs.
• Draft press releases and set up for events/programs.
• Catalog and process new and donated materials.
• Repair books, DVDs, and audiobooks, and withdraw damaged/dated library materials.
• Provide assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalency (required).
• Associate's Degree (preferred).
• No prior experience required.
• Intermediate computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Excel, Word, Publisher, database management, and record keeping.
• Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
• Current and valid Class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
