Librarian II (S03657)

Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking candidates for a Full-Time Librarian II position in the Research and Teaching division.

Schedule

The regular work schedule is 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., allowing for flexibility to accommodate one evening shift per week, and an occasional Saturday as required. This position is currently eligible for telework one (1) day per week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional research assistance and a wide range of information services to library users, including students, faculty, staff, and community patrons.
• Deliver formal instruction on information literacy topics, both in the classroom and one-on-one.
• Serve as a member of the Arts, English & Reading, and Humanities librarian liaison team, providing outreach and support to faculty and students in these disciplines.
• Coordinate the Research & Teaching division’s online learning tools, leading instructional design initiatives, managing workplans for review, creation, and maintenance of digital learning objects, participating in assessment activities, and leading periodic discussions about learning tools within the division.
• Perform all aspects of Academic Area Liaison and Embedded Librarian services, including:
  • Providing professional reference assistance and information services.
  • Delivering effective information literacy instruction.
  • Creating and delivering information literacy activities and tools for in-person and online learning environments.
• Conduct outreach to faculty and others in the Arts, English & Reading, and Humanities disciplines to foster effective relationships and create dynamic learning strategies supporting the curriculum and student needs.
• Familiarize yourself with the needs, attitudes, and internal operations of assigned academic departments.
• Learn about the programs and curricula for assigned academic departments and plan for growth and change accordingly.
• Build and maintain relationships with faculty in assigned academic departments.
• Work with the librarian supervisor and liaison team to establish and maintain relationships and outreach methods.
• Coordinate the development and maintenance of MC Library’s multidisciplinary online learning tools, including oversight of routine maintenance, periodic revisions, and development of new digital learning objects.
• Serve as the Research & Teaching division’s point of contact for the Articulate content development platform.
• Provide training on instructional design principles and the effective use of the Articulate platform for librarian content authors.
• Lead periodic discussions within the Research & Teaching division to promote a holistic understanding of the library’s digital learning objects and engage in planning for future needs.
• Participate in planning and priority setting for the Research and Teaching division's annual goals.
• Commit to professional development opportunities, including conferences, seminars, and professional meetings to enhance knowledge in current librarianship practices and develop new skills.
• Maintain a high level of proficiency with electronic and print resources in a constantly evolving information and technology environment.
• Keep skills updated with the latest hardware and software products, trends, and their practical use in an information-seeking environment.
• Maintain proficiency in the use of web-based, social media, networked, and emerging technologies to deliver real-time and asynchronous reference and instructional services.
• Create and maintain online library guides using an extensible web-based platform.
• Maintain a high level of interpersonal, intercultural, and intergenerational communication skills to reach a diverse user population.
• Participate on library committees, task groups, or subcommittees in support of the Library Master Plan and Research and Teaching goals, as well as college governance or college committees.
• Support library employees by sharing knowledge and encouraging their development to build relationships and strengthen collaboration within and between library units.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in library/information science (MLS, MSLS, MLIS, etc.).
• Three years of progressively responsible professional library experience in a functional area or specialized services in academic, research, or public libraries.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science as applied to the operation of academic libraries.
• Professional competence using research tools in an online environment, such as Internet browsers, Library Management Systems, and current web applications, as well as professional experience with basic Microsoft Office Software.
• Ability to instruct and assist students in the use of library resources.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, as well as strong listening skills and proficiency at conducting reference interviews.
• The equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing digital learning objects using instructional design methodology and adult learning principles.
• Experience with developing digital learning objects through the Articulate platform, including Rise 360, Review 360, and/or Storyline 360.
• Experience collaborating with faculty and others to achieve strategic goals.
• Experience managing or leading collaborative projects or programs.
• Experience with effective methods and current techniques in information literacy instruction, including awareness of emerging technologies and their implications for teaching and learning.
• Professional expertise in learning design for accessibility.
• Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
• Proficiency in a language other than English.

Pay

Hiring range: $74,267-$96,558 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $118,850.
