Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools Office Job Description I. POSITION TITLE: Librarian Department: Catholic Schools Office Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule Supervisor: Principal Ii. General Description Under the supervision of the principal and the assistant principal for academics; the librarian supervises all use of the library; maintains the library as a place for academic study for students, staff and class groups; promotes library use for research by providing updated materials in all sections and staying current with technological advancements; assists in preparation of the library budget and monitors the finances throughout the year; trains and supervises the volunteer library staff; coordinates the use of the library and computer commons throughout the year and determines and approves the correct usage of the facility; performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal. Iii. Duties Of The Job Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education; shows evidence of knowledge of the Catholic philosophy of education; promotes gospel values and Catholic moral teaching; upholds the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church; provides opportunities for the students to be prepared for life in today’s Church and society Supervises use of the library as a place for students to study, read, and conduct research; instructs classes and individual students in the use of the library; promotes student research by providing updated materials in all sections and staying current with technological advancements. Carries out ongoing selection procedures for the purchase of library materials and equipment, within budget limitations, based on recommendations from staff; administration, and students and based on personal research; assumes the responsibility for the selection, acquisition, processing, and servicing of books and other library materials needed for the curricular and co-curricular programs of the school. Trains and supervises the volunteer library aides; strives for professional growth through reading of current literature in the field and participation in appropriate seminars; maintains communication with colleagues. Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal. IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Must have a Bachelors Degree.Must be certified by the Arizona State Department of Education as a teacher and meet applicable NCA requirements.Must meet Ministry Formation Certification as required by Diocesan Policy.Must be in good physical condition.Must have initiative, creativity, and problem solving skills; judgment in handling different personalities and emerging situations; an ability to observe and actively listen in assessing individual student, teacher, and program needs, proficiency in good communication skills with both children and adults; positive attitude in crisis situations; ability to work cooperatively with others as well as ability to delegate.Must have knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology.
