Librarian
About the role
Serve your community as an Adult Services Librarian at Cary Regional Library in downtown Cary. Engage directly with Wake County citizens by designing and delivering programs, offering one-on-one professional services, and working on the service desk. You will create experiences that inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning while connecting adults of all ages with the library’s resources and building community relationships.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement dynamic programs for adults of all ages to spark curiosity and joy
- Provide one-on-one assistance to help adults build skills in job searching, research, college applications, and more
- Ensure smooth library operations in the absence of managers
- Support colleagues and collaborate with a dedicated team to plan programs, projects, and maintain collections
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with the community to promote library services and enhance programs
- Provide excellent customer service, reference, and readers’ advisory services to the public
About Our Team
Wake County Public Libraries (WCPL), a division of Community Services, is one of the largest and busiest library systems in North Carolina. The system operates eight regional libraries, thirteen community libraries, two specialty libraries, and a bookmobile. It circulates over ten million books annually and welcomes two to three million visitors each year. WCPL is known for its excellent customer service and award-winning programs that engage people of all ages and backgrounds across Wake County.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Librarianship or related field (MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML) from an ALA-accredited program or an NC program
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in adult services
- One year of professional librarian experience
- Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish

Schedule
- Mondays: 12:10 PM – 9:10 PM
- Tuesdays–Fridays: 8:15 AM – 5:15 PM
- Saturdays: 9:10 AM – 6:10 PM (every 4th weekend)
- Sundays: 12:10 PM – 5:10 PM (every 4th weekend)
The selected candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check, education verification, and submit fingerprints to the State Bureau of Investigation for a secondary criminal history record check.
