Qualifications
- Certified and licensed in accordance with state law and the regulations of the Mississippi Department of Education
- Such licensure and transcript of credits shall be on file in the office of the Superintendent of Education
- Must pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check in accordance with Mississippi Code S37-9-17

Job Goal
To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.
Essential Functions
- Operate and supervise the media center to which assigned
- Evaluate, select and requisition new media center materials
- Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and make media center materials available to supplement the instructional program
- Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the media center acquires
- Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system
- Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers
- Work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources
- Promote appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities
- Help students develop habits of independent reference work and develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments
- Present and discuss materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher
- Participate in curriculum meetings
- Counsel with and give reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests
- Arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center's patrons
- Prepare and administer the media center budget
- Supervise media center aides in the performance of their duties
- Weed obsolete and worn materials from the collections
- Supervise the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the media center
- Perform any other duties within the scope of this job description as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Director
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment
Uses standard office supplies and materials.
Travel Requirements
Travel to school district buildings, professional meetings as required.

Terms of Employment
187 days annually with salary in accordance with the Administrative Salary Schedule as approved by the Harrison County School District.
Evaluation
Performance of the Library/Media Specialist will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions in the School Board Policies and Procedures.
