Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in the planning, direction, and supervision of the work of clerical and paraprofessional personnel (inmates).
- Supervises the inmate library on a daily basis and ensures the library program meets inmate needs standards.
- Performs technical work acquiring, cataloging, and classifying books and periodicals in addition to soliciting the donation of books, library materials, and equipment from the private sector and the State Department of Library.
- Provides specialized reference, bibliographic, reads advisory, interlibrary loan and research services.
- Maintains current awareness of library materials in the fields.
- Prepares in-house displays and activities.
- Ensures outgoing legal mail is appropriately documented.
- Ensures proper handling and storage of legal tapes and CD’s and forwarding such items to other facilities if inmate is transferred from current facility.
Requirements
- Education: A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 21 semester hours in library science.
- Experience, Training, or Skills: Two years of professional library experience.
- Substitute Education for Experience: A master's degree in library science will substitute for the education and experience.
- Substitute Experience for Education: Library experience, which must include some professional level experience in a combination of at least three of the following areas will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis: reference; cataloging and classification of materials; selection of materials; selection of instructional materials for children, adolescents, or adults; organization and/or administration; preparation and selection of materials for public relations/publicity purposes; and bookmobile operations.
- A master's degree in library science will substitute for the education and experience.

Pay
Salary: $46,090.80 Annually
