Key Responsibilities
- Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment where students feel empowered to explore, discover, and engage with students.
- Promote lifelong love of reading through diverse, high-interest materials, book clubs, reading challenges, and author visits.
- Maintain and grow a collection that reflects a wide range of middle-level authors, genres, cultures, and perspectives.
- Design and facilitate school-wide literacy events that build community and align with academic standards (e.g., Reading Week, Poetry Slams, Battle of the Books).
- Collaborate with teachers to co-plan and co-teach engaging, standards-based learning experiences that integrate information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship.
- Support inquiry-based learning and creative problem-solving across content areas.
- Embed library resources into the core curriculum to enrich instruction and support differentiated learning.
- Serve as a partner in instructional design, helping staff align lessons with academic standards and best practices.
- Stay current with trends in middle-level education, library science, and instructional technology to support a forward-thinking teaching community.
- Curate and manage the library collection, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of middle school learners and supports the school’s academic goals.
- Utilize library data and feedback to guide collection development and programming decisions.
- Advocate for the library as a critical resource in school improvement, equity, and student achievement.
Qualifications
- Ed Tech III Certification
- Strong knowledge of middle-level literature, authors, and reading interests.
- Demonstrated experience working with adolescents in an educational setting.
- Strong organizational, communication, and technology skills.
