Legal Secretary
About the role
The Office of the Public Advocate seeks a Legal Secretary to handle a fast-paced and high-volume environment. The ideal candidate should be organized, an effective communicator, and capable of managing multiple tasks.
Responsibilities
- Handles clerical services including proofreading, coordinating attorneys' schedules, handling case files, and preparing legal documents for attorneys.
- Reviews documents for completeness and typographical and formatting errors.
- Transcribes witness interviews from various formats and updates internal case tracking systems.
- Creates, maintains, and updates case management records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Answers multi-line telephone, screens and transfers calls, takes messages, and directs visitors.
- Schedules meetings, interviews, and legal calls for attorneys.
- Photocopies documents, correspondence, notebooks, books, motions, briefs, files, and other confidential material.
- Supports attorneys representing individuals charged with, and/or convicted of crimes, including those with traumatic subject matter.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in legal preparations and proceedings within a legal setting.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Intermediate bilingual skills (Spanish/English).
Qualifications
While not specified, we value experience preparing legal proceedings and preparations in Juvenile Delinquency, Juvenile Dependency, Mental Health, Delinquency/Dependency/Mental Health Appeals.

Pay
Anticipated Hiring Range: $21.75 - $25.44 hourly
Full Pay Range: $21.75 - $36.50 hourly
Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.
Schedule
Hybrid or alternative work schedule options are available after the training period based on business needs.
