About the role
The Legal Manager position is responsible for overseeing functions of the Law department. The position serves as liaison to the Human Resources department, supervises support staff, and maintains department files and records.
Responsibilities
- Supervise staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; providing backup as needed due to workload fluctuations or absences; reviewing and approving time sheets and leave requests; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Manage personnel issues to include FMLA requests, complaints and grievances; prepare, review, and forward related documents for Department Director’s approval.
- Maintain Law Department files and records, including the department law library.
- Serve as backup for the Open Records Officer to include: coordinating and managing the electronic open records system; responding to requests for public records in accordance with the Georgia Open Records Act; and providing guidance to open records departmental liaisons.
- Lead support staff meetings and present information at staff meetings.
- Speak to members of the public as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Legal studies, or a related field, and 5 years of progressively responsible legal support experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Management/supervisory experience in a legal department or law office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate.
- Oracle Fusion Cloud experience.
