Legal Intern

About the role

The legal intern will assist the City Attorney's office with a variety of tasks, gaining practical experience while working with attorneys on meaningful projects.

Responsibilities

• Review legal correspondence from the Courts and attorneys.
• Conduct legal research on issues including child welfare, conflict of interest law, eminent domain, employment, freedom of information, procurement, and zoning law.
• Draft legal pleadings, motions, and memoranda.
• Assist City attorneys in preparation of child welfare, litigation, and zoning cases.
• Attend meetings for City Council, City departments, boards, and commissions as needed.
• Communicate with supervisor, department employees, other departments, and other individuals to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Preferably have sat for the July 2026 Bar exam or already passed the Virginia Bar Exam.
• Valid driver's license.

Pay

Hourly rate of pay: $36.89 - $40 per hour.
