About the role
The legal intern will assist the City Attorney's office with a variety of tasks, gaining practical experience while working with attorneys on meaningful projects.
Responsibilities
- Review legal correspondence from the Courts and attorneys.
- Conduct legal research on issues including child welfare, conflict of interest law, eminent domain, employment, freedom of information, procurement, and zoning law.
- Draft legal pleadings, motions, and memoranda.
- Assist City attorneys in preparation of child welfare, litigation, and zoning cases.
- Attend meetings for City Council, City departments, boards, and commissions as needed.
- Communicate with supervisor, department employees, other departments, and other individuals to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
- Preferably have sat for the July 2026 Bar exam or already passed the Virginia Bar Exam.
- Valid driver's license.
Pay
Hourly rate of pay: $36.89 - $40 per hour.
