The WVUHS Legal Services Department seeks a Legal Assistant to provide support to the litigation functions and general legal needs of the department. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a legal or related field.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Associates degree in business/office management, secretarial sciences, or related legal field preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two (2) years of experience in legal or related field
- Experience with database and document management systems
- Advanced experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe
KEY POINTS OF CONTACT
- Key point of contact for the WVUHS litigation team
- Responsible for calendar management and travel coordination for the Associate Litigation Counsel
- Communicate with internal WVUHS departments regarding legal matters
COMMUNICATION AND DOCUMENT PREPARATION
- Prepares documents for signature and coordinates their execution and mailing or electronic filing
- Maintains management information for the WVUH Legal Services Department
- Maintain appropriate departmental filing system and files ensuring ease of access and accuracy
- Create and organize information, and generate reference tools for easy use by the office
- Circulate litigation documents to team members and stakeholders as appropriate
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT
- Support the WVUH Legal Services Department in all matters
- Train other personnel in litigation databases as directed
- Organize and track files for important case documents, including pleadings and discovery documents
- Search legal records collected in computer databases
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting
- Manual dexterity used in operating standard office equipment
- Lifting of no more than 10 pounds

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Good verbal and writing skills
- Ability to proofread and edit documents
- Good organizational skills
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate standard office software
- Willingness to adapt and reprioritize tasks in a changing environment
- Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize while working independently
