Legal Assistant I

About the role

This position involves assisting attorneys in the Legal Department with all types of legal issues concerning the bank, including litigation matters, document preparation, document production, and correspondence with attorneys, judges, and other professionals.

Responsibilities

• Analyze legal questions/issues from both internal and external sources with the assistance of attorneys and formulate proper responses.
• Work closely with and assist attorneys in all legal matters within the department.
• Assist with phones when necessary, directing incoming issues (via phone and email) to attorneys within the legal department.
• Perform all additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in general studies OR High school diploma or GED and 2 years’ work experience in legal or related fields.
• Basic understanding of internal banking procedures, banking law, estate and guardianship matters, real estate law, trust law, corporate governance, and bankruptcy law.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Intermediate-level experience using Microsoft Word, Adobe, and Excel.
• Ability to work with attorneys, judges, and other professionals in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Experience using a multi-line phone system.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use a computer keyboard and/or mouse requiring hand and wrist manipulation while viewing computer screens.
