About the role

The Utah Attorney General’s Office is hiring a Legal Assistant III to support attorneys and office operations. This position plays a vital role in upholding justice and protecting Utah’s citizens.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversight, planning, organizing, and coordinating office operations
  • Managing staff schedules and ensuring adequate coverage
  • Composing and preparing correspondence, reports, legal documents, and other written materials
  • Handling, reviewing, and processing documents for completeness and accuracy
  • File documents with courts and assist in preparing for hearings and trials
  • Maintaining records, developing and managing filing systems, and arranging equipment upkeep
  • Gathering and evaluating research materials, ensuring their reliability and relevance
  • Reviewing written materials for accuracy, proper formatting, and organization
  • Answering phone calls and welcoming visitors; relaying messages and information, and directing inquiries as needed
  • Arranging and coordinating appointments, maintaining office calendars
  • Preparing pleadings and documents using tools such as Microsoft Word, PDF, Excel, and other software
  • Carrying out additional tasks as assigned by supervising attorneys or section leaders

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to oversee office operations and manage staff schedules
  • Excellent written communication skills for composing correspondence, reports, and legal documents
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and processing documents in both digital and paper formats
  • Knowledge of court filing procedures and experience assisting with hearings and trials
  • Ability to maintain records, develop filing systems, and coordinate equipment maintenance
  • Research skills to gather, evaluate, and ensure the reliability and relevance of materials
  • Proficiency in proofreading and editing for accuracy, formatting, and organization of written materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills to answer phone calls, welcome visitors, and direct inquiries effectively
  • Experience in arranging appointments and maintaining office calendars
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Word, PDF, Excel, and other software for preparing legal documents
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned by supervising attorneys or section leaders
