Legal Assistant
Responsibilities
- Handle office correspondence and administrative tasks such as responding to emails, phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, binder prep, picking up the mail, preparing welcome boxes, keeping attorneys abreast of their scheduled court appearances, ensuring Zoom links are calendared if appearances are on Zoom, opening and closing files, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines
- Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently
- Help with the mail
- Filing legal documents with the courts
- Sending welcome packets to new clients when asked
- Updating client information in our case management system
- Sending appropriate cards/gifts to current clients, and other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be a resident of the Upper Marlboro area in Prince George’s County, Maryland
- Must be detail-oriented
- Must be patient
- Must be punctual
- Must be a notary
- Must not get flustered when the day does not go the way you were expecting
- Must be willing to learn software applications
- Must be familiar with mail practices
- Must be willing to drop everything and file documents with the Courts
- Must be willing to drop everything and run unexpected errands
- Must be willing to act as the backup to our Legal Intake Specialist, when necessary
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have a reliable vehicle
- Must have valid automobile insurance that includes medical coverage for yourself and others involved in a vehicle accident while you are working
- Must be familiar with Google Drive and G-Suite products
Preferences
- Family law experience is highly desired
